The People’s Garden

Since opening our gates in 1847, Birkenhead Park has been known as the People’s Garden. Back then, a public park, freely available to everyone to enjoy regardless of social class, was a revolutionary idea. And today, it remains your park – a wholly inclusive place where all people are welcome.

A Walk on the Wild Side

Birkenhead Park is home to hundreds of native and migratory animals. Take a walk and you’ll come across all kinds of wildlife. Look up and glimpse the grey squirrels expertly climbing up and down our trees. Stroll by our lakes and find ducks, swans and geese gliding over the water. The park is a natural haven for local wildlife, so you never know who you might meet, whether it be a fox, a bat, or a hedgehog.
