Wild About

Wild About is a collaborative project connecting children to nature through hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and environmental education. It empowers children to become eco-conscious champions, inspires educators through practical resources and training, and aims to integrate outdoor learning across the curriculum.

Our Mission

At the heart of Wild About is the belief that outdoor education is essential for personal growth, environmental stewardship, and lifelong learning. By providing resources, training, and opportunities to explore nature, we aim to break down barriers to outdoor learning and integrate it into every aspect of education. Whether it’s in a park, library, school, or even at home, Wild About makes nature accessible to all.

From parks to libraries to classrooms, we're connecting every corner of Wirral to the wonders of the natural world.

The Wild About Principles

Empowering Educators with Resources and Training

Educators are the key to bringing outdoor education to life. That’s why Wild About offers accredited training, CPD opportunities, and bespoke nature packs designed to make outdoor learning easily integrate into any setting, equipping educators with the tools and confidence to do so.

Bringing the Curriculum to Life

Outdoor education is an exciting way to link learning with real-world experiences. Through Wild About, children can explore maths through patterns or minibeast survey data, write poems inspired by nature, or craft musical instruments from natural and recycled materials. Every subject can find a place outdoors, making learning dynamic and fun.

Inspiring Families and Communities

The journey doesn't stop at school. Wild About encourages families to join the adventure by borrowing nature resource packs, attending workshops, or visiting parks. By involving the wider community, we're spreading the message of environmental responsibility and ensuring that everyone can contribute to tackling the climate emergency in fun, practical ways.

Together, we're nurturing a lifelong connection to nature and fostering a community passionate about protecting our planet.

What does Wild About look like?

Books and beyond

Our libraries provide a vast range of beautiful and inspiring books and activities to help children connect further to nature. Trained library staff can teach children to make their own research dens, perfect for finding out more about the wildlife they’ve spotted on a recent field trip to the park. Groups can come together to create team fact files, or children may simply wish to enjoy reading a favourite book about nature, in nature!

Curriculum links for schools

Wild About links easily to curriculum topics. IT students can design graphics or write articles, while drama and music classes might explore climate-themed plays or create instruments from natural materials. English lessons could include nature-inspired writing, and maths and science activities can focus on data collection, surveys, and environmental theories.

Digital nature

Take a trip to Eureka Science Museum’s Nature zone and be inspired by cutting edge technology and digital learning. Ask questions like: What does our environment teach us about ourselves, our purpose, and our connections to each other? And can nature inspire new ways of living and provide solutions to the big challenges we all face?
