Wirral Borough of Culture 2024 was a year-long celebration of Wirral’s story, its people, and its places. The programme showcased a rich and varied mix of culture, arts, and heritage across the entire borough, highlighting Wirral’s vibrant creative community, with inclusion and environmental sustainability at its core.
This exhibition stands as a lasting legacy – one that began with the vision of Professor Robert Lee and was carried forward in his memory following his sad passing in June 2024.
The project was brought to life through the invaluable collaboration between the Friends of Birkenhead Park and the Birkenhead Photographic Association.
Special thanks go to the Birkenhead Park Team, with heartfelt appreciation to park rangers Steph and Mike for their engaging and informative tours for local children, and to Camille, who did an outstanding job curating the exhibition as part of her Year 11 work placement.
We are also deeply grateful to UK Unplugged for their expertise, and to all the young landscape architects who took part in the project – their contributions were instrumental in bringing this vision to reality.
Wirral Borough of Culture 2024 is co-ordinated and part-funded by Wirral Council, with support from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
